We are alive and persevering during this time. It’s hard as hell but we’re doing it!
sponsorship
After receiving a grant from the Give Back Yoga Foundation last year, they agreed to be our fiscal sponsor. They are the pioneers in the field of supporting yoga in prison and recovery communities. They felt that our mission and work so far aligned with their mission. Wow, that’s an honor and we are grateful.
silent auction, zoom classes and tt grads!
Against all odds, we held an end of year fundraiser and our silent auction raised close to $5000. We are zooming into two recovery centers, teaching four classes each week. We are so proud that the four women that completed their yoga teacher training while in a mandated recovery center are all out and pursuing their lives on the outside. We have made sure they all have scholarships for all yoga classes at Sadhana, and continue to raise funds to send them to a Y12SR training (Yoga for 12-Step Recovery Yoga Teacher Training).
partnerships and plans
Our partnership with Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhood, to offer a yoga and meditation program for children and families impacted by incarceration, kicked off in September and we had in-person classes with the children until early January, when they were shut down. We continue to connect with the kids every week on social media with our Yoga Snacks videos, and are scheduling mat drop-offs to the families.
We are planning a program with Youth Clubhouse, a part of the Mental Health Association in Catskill and Hudson, for yoga classes to start in the spring, 2021.
We have initiated a moving garden project with Meadow Run Residential Treatment Program in Rhinebeck, to work outside and create a garden of fresh vegetables and herbs with the women there, sprinkling in the magic ingredient of moving and mindful breathing (mostly in the form of laughter). If you’re near Rhinebeck and want to be part of that outdoor program, please come garden with us. We need raised beds made, soil delivered, seeds planted, weeded, watered and harvested! Please keep us in your thoughts and make a donation when you can. Please follow the directions carefully, as we only receive your donation if it is designated for the Sadhana Service Project. Thank you!
