What we’re doing
Every breath has the power to transform. Every movement carries the seed of healing. At MovingPotential, we don’t just believe in yoga’s power to heal—we witness its miracles every day in prisons, recovery centers, and youth centers across New York’s Hudson Valley.
Our journey began as the Sadhana Service Project (SSP) with an unshakeable conviction: that yoga’s transformative benefits should reach every soul, regardless of their circumstances. This isn’t just our mission—it’s our burning purpose, guiding every class we teach and every life we touch.
Through trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness meditation, we create spaces of profound healing for those wrestling with trauma, addiction, and the shadows of incarceration. In the confined spaces of Columbia and Ulster County Jails, we bring freedom of movement. In the recovery rooms of Samaritan Daytop Village, we nurture hope through breath. At Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhood, we help children with incarcerated parents find strength in stillness.
Our presence spans:
- Samaritan Daytop Village’s Meadow Run and Fox Run Recovery Centers
- Columbia County Jail
- Ulster County Jail
- Re-Entry/Columbia in Hudson
- Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhood
Each location represents not just a program, but a community of healing, a testament to the power of movement, and a step toward a more compassionate world.
In addition to our independently funded programs mentioned above, MovingPotential has also been conducting workshops inside of Greene Correctional Facility as part of Arts In Corrections NYS, a regrant program of NYSCA and Wave Farm, made possible, in part, by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor, the New York State Legislature, and the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
